ULLOVU – The 2025 matric cohort at Ullovu Secondary School got a boost of motivation on 29 August, as the school hosted its 50-Day Countdown to NSC Exams. With just a day to go before the Life Orientation final on 1 September, the event was designed to inspire, equip, and energize learners for the final stretch of their high school journey. The full event was streamed live on Facebook, allowing parents, learners, and the broader school community to follow along. Watch the event here.

Deputy Principal Mr Myende explained the school’s strategy to keep learners focused: “We kept academic motivators simple but meaningful. We brought in teachers from other schools, used Super Thursdays, integrated motivational sessions into lessons, and invited pastors to lead morning prayers to help learners manage exam stress. Peer motivators also played a crucial role.” He added that initiatives such as the Matric Dance and the CMC 50-Day Countdown help learners channel their energy effectively as they prepare for finals.
He also offered practical advice for nervous learners: “Having a timetable will help manage your time efficiently. Incorporating gym or physical activity can calm nerves. Tackle challenging subjects and chapters strategically, engage with previous question papers to gauge your readiness, and identify classroom mentors who can guide you and help reduce anxiety.”
For Grade 12 learner Khanyile Nompilo, the countdown was a reminder of just how quickly time is moving. “The 50 days show how little time we have before our exams. I’m nervous and wish I had managed my time better, but I feel ready to push through,” she said. She praised the teachers for their dedication throughout the year, including weekends and holidays, and thanked her family for their emotional and practical support. Nompilo also called on her peers to stay disciplined and support one another as they strive for excellence.
The RCL Head Boy, Fanele Hlela encouraged the matric cohort to embrace teamwork and resilience. “This milestone reflects the dedication of our matric. Study groups, shared resources, and mutual encouragement show the power of working together. I urge them to stay focused, believe in themselves, and aim for their best. With preparation, anything is possible,” he said.
The 50-Day Countdown event combined motivation, practical guidance, and school leadership support, creating an atmosphere of energy and determination. As Ullovu’s matrics prepare to face their final exams, the school continues to foster a culture of resilience, focus, and excellence, preparing learners not just to pass, but to thrive in the next stage of their academic journey.
