ULLOVU – Three Grade 11 learners from Ullovu Secondary School have soared to the top of the Umbumbulu Kutlwanong ProMaths centre, proving that hard work, discipline, and determination know no bounds. Msindiseni Mtolo achieved a flawless 100%, followed closely by Simphiwe Sibiya with 97% and Snethemba Mthembu with 94%, placing all three in the prestigious “Room 1” category reserved for the centre’s highest achievers.

Kutlwanong ProMaths is a renowned programme aimed at strengthening mathematics and science skills among learners, with centres across the country. At the Umbumbulu centre, learners compete not just against their classmates but against peers from multiple schools in the community. The challenge is tough, the expectations high, and Ullovu’s trio rose to meet them.
Speaking about their remarkable performance, Ms Mthembu, the learners’ mathematics teacher, said: “As a teacher, seeing these learners excel shows that they are absorbing the material and applying it effectively. Their commitment and love for mathematics set them apart. Healthy competition and consistent practice have played a huge role in their success.” She added that the learners’ ability to handle advanced questions and their discipline in mastering concepts is what truly makes them high flyers.
Principal Mrs Gcabashe, who formerly managed the Kutlwanong Umbumbulu centre, praised the achievement and highlighted its significance for the school: “These results are proof that our learners, when given opportunities and support, can achieve remarkable success. It also demonstrates the culture of excellence we are nurturing at Ullovu. Our focus on mathematics and science is paying off.” She encouraged other parents and learners to engage actively with programmes like Kutlwanong, noting that parental support and learner dedication are key to achieving such outcomes.
For the students, the success is as much about personal growth as it is about marks. Msindiseni, Simphiwe, and Snethemba have demonstrated that consistent practice, teamwork, and resilience are essential ingredients for success. Their dedication is inspiring younger learners at Ullovu, who now see tangible proof that hard work and discipline in mathematics can open doors to future opportunities in science, technology, and beyond.
The school plans to celebrate the achievement formally, underscoring its commitment to academic excellence and the holistic development of its learners. With a strong foundation in mathematics and science, Ullovu continues to prepare learners not just to excel locally, but to compete confidently on national and global stages.
