ULLOVU — Learners, parents, and teachers of Grade 10A came together yesterday, 21 August 2025, for a dynamic meeting aimed at motivating learners and strengthening home–school partnerships as the September Trial Exams approach.

The session was initiated by Ms LD Mlumbi, class manager for Grade 10A and Accounting educator, after analysing the Term 2 results. “I saw that many learners performed poorly after the Term 2 results, and I felt they needed encouragement and guidance. I wanted to create a space where parents, teachers, and learners could come together to find solutions,” Ms Mlumbi said.

Reflecting on the results, she added: “The performance was concerning. Few learners did well, while most fell behind. This showed me that extra support and motivation are needed.” She hopes the meeting will inspire learners to work harder, take responsibility for their learning, and build stronger partnerships with their parents. “Believe in yourself, stay disciplined, and remember that small consistent efforts lead to big results,” she encouraged the learners.

The meeting also included one-on-one consultations between teachers and parents, allowing detailed discussions about each learner’s academic progress. One teacher shared: “I noticed that many parents really want to support their children but some don’t know how. It was powerful to see them listening and engaging with teachers.” The teacher added that the session helped them understand learners’ home environments and tailor support in class. “I will ensure I give timely feedback, extra support where needed, and consistent communication with parents,” the teacher affirmed. Parents were also advised to create a study routine, monitor progress, and encourage learners to stay focused.

Adding further inspiration, three Grade 12 commerce learners — Khumalo Pretty, Khathi Kwanele, and Khanyile Nompilo — shared their experiences and offered words of encouragement to Grade 10A. “If we could improve our marks through discipline and teamwork, so can you. Trials are your stepping stone,” said one of the senior learners.

Principal Mrs GP Gcabashe announced that extra Mathematics classes for Grades 10A and 10B will be held on 23 August 2025 from 08:00 to 12:00, with attendance mandatory and learners expected in full school uniform.

The session concluded with a collective pledge: learners promising to work harder, teachers pledging support, and parents committing to encourage their children at home — setting the stage for strong performance in the upcoming Trial Exams.
